The newest bad gal of dancehall, seen as a hardcore individual in the eyes of the public, she describes herself as a moderate person, nice, caring, loving, and one show relates easily with others. Persons recognize her as down-to-earth person. She is beautiful on the inside, as well as charming on the outside, although she considers herself miserable at times. Grace Latoya Hamilton was born at the Spanish Town Hospital on August 6th, and grew up in Old Breaton, St. Catherine, She attended Breaton Junior High School, and later St. Catherine High School.
Her friends, in a group called Gilloteen, gave her the name Spice. Whenever she was not present with her team at a party, people would ask, Where is the spicy one? Spice would be the one to give the zing to her group. Spice praises Professor Nuts, who inspired her to get started in the music business, four years ago. She started performing at local stage shows in her community and also its environs.
Was doing business to become a chartered accountant, never liked the figures, got 8 subjects was supposed to go to sixth form, but never gave me any joy.
While going to high school entered JCDC music festival got 5 gold medals in singing fr St. Catherine High.
Went to Edna Manley School for the Visual Arts singing and drama. During that time was a part of Ashe.
1999 there was a popular cable programme on JACS called Many Moods of Nuffy showing her community Portmore. First time she got the chance to show her talent as a singer.
From there people started to encourage into taking it up as a career. That’s when dropped everything else and went on a stage show for the frst time.
Started to DJ realised it had a better impact for her.
2000 Heavy D from Supreme saw her talent at a stage show and gave her a chance to express herself at Sting 2000. Firs major show. Got called back four times
2002 so good at Sting that that was a toss up between herself and Elephant Man with most thingking she hjad the edge
Went on a tour in England 2002, Baby Cham and Ward 21, was without a hit song at the time, and Baby Cham was surprised to see her mashing up the shows. So he started to ask her why she wasn’t on the radio back home in Jamaica. Told heim she didn’t have the links to establish herself. Told her she had talent and promised ot introduce her to Dave Kelly when they went back t Jamaica. He did. She also thanks Baby Cham, because he is the reason she is still in the business today.
Throughout her career, she has performed at various stage shows, both locally and overseas, the biggest of which was Sting 2005, where she received overwhelming applause and shouts from the patrons. She is currently signed with Madhouse Records, which she recognizes as the best thing to ever happen to her. Love the vibes, things going good, she said, adding that she like the feed back.
Her first single for Madhouse Records Complain on the Pretty Pretty Rhythm did very well both locally and overseas. Her singles Hype and Right There the latter done in collaboration with TOI a new singing sensation on Dave Kellys Bad Gal Rhythm as well as two smashing videos, hit the road recently and are creating waves. She also collaborated with Jimmy Cliff on one of his album with the hit single entitled I Want I Do I Get. Her most current song Fight Over Man released on the Mad House label is also creating quite a rave in the dances. She spends most of her time n the road, especially on the Fort Clarence and Hellshire beaches, where she enjoys relaxing and getting new ideas for her hardcore lyrics, whether from pas experiences, or just by interacting with her friends. She also shares an interest in acting and swimming. She would love to be an actress one day. With her creativity Spice is undoubtedly destined for stardom.
New Projects
The only artiste who worked through pregnancy and launched immediately after giving birth to her son…took all this in her stride.
Within six weeks she was back on stage motivated by her son, is evern more determined to accomplish her dream form a professional team around her publist, booking agent, stylist, and radio and television friendly songs…of course still have rude girls songs for dancehall fans. road manager, street team and plus she already has Madhouse dealing with most of her production also working with other top ranked producers. Going corporate, flexible like that can work any show…no limit.
Single ‘I’m Back’ on House of Vibes label on the North Coast riddim. Should be released by the end of the month. “Done Out’ on the Dem riddim produced by Ward 21. ‘Inna Di Light’ on the Gear Box riddim produced Truck Back all these expected to bus di place Christmas.
Video will be shot next week for all three singles.
Already ‘I’m Back’ is receiving good rotation on air.
