Mavado charged with assault; Bounty questioned and released

The Gully Gad, Mavado, seems to be having a spate of self-induced ‘bad luck’ in recent times. Just last week the deejay managed to wiggle his way out of a charge of malicious destruction of property.

Today, he is on a charge of assault and out on bail in the sum of $30,000.

Following an incident at the Quad night club in New Kingston early Monday morning, Mavado and Alliance leader, Bounty Killer, were asked to turn themselves in to the police.

Both artistes reportedly surrendered to the Half Way Tree polie and were interrogated.

Late in the afternoon, Bounty Killer was released, while Mavado was was still being questioned. The deejay was subsequently charged with assault.

The police are investigating the incident in which a member of Mavado’s entourage was shot by an off duty policeman guarding the entrance to the Quad nightclub.

According to eyewitnesses, the drama began while a party was in full swing to celebrate Bounty Killer’s birthday.

It is reported that members of Mavado’s entourage refused to be searched resulting in a stand-off between them and a police team.

Reports are that the policeman was attempting to search Mavado, who resisted.

It is alleged that during a scuffle between the artiste and the policeman, the lawman was hit in the face.

The policeman reportedly fired a shot which struck the member of the entourage in the abdomen.

Mavado is currently riding high with the single, Pepper on the riddim of the same name produced by Stephen Di Genius McGregor. He is also known for songs such as Jailhouse, She Beat Him, I’m So Special, Messiah, Starlight and a host of others,
