The Sunday Herald yesterday named the driver of the BMW X6 motor vehicle, which has been implicated in the shooting death of 17-year old Khajeel Mais, as Patrick Powell. Chatychaty sources have confirmed that he is indeed the man who has been arrested on Monday.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Ealan Powell, the Head of the Criminal Investigation Branch, says Monday afternoon that the businessman was taken into custody shortly after he returned to the country Monday morning, July 11.
Khajeel was reportedly shot dead by the driver of a BMW sports utility vehicle on Friday, July 1, after the taxi in which he was travelling hit the luxury vehicle.
Earlier, ACP Powell has sought to defend the police against criticisms of double standards in its investigation of Khajeel’s murder.
Last week the CIB indicated that it had been focusing on a particular businessman in connection with the shooting death of the Kingston College student.
However the police did not release the man’s name resulting in criticisms that they were treating the person differently because of his status.
