Dancehall Artiste Mavado was found guilty of assault and causing grievous bodily arm when he appeared in the Montego Bay Registrate Magistrate Court on Monday May 7, 2012.
He was fined $80,000.00 or six months in prison.
He was also charged with malicious destruction of property or pay a fine of $20,000.00 or serve six months. The sentences are to run concurrently.
The verdict arose out of an incident in July of last year when Mavado and his entourage allegedly attacked a man and his son following a motor vehicle accident in Montego Bay, St James.
On the night of July 22, the man and his son were trying to park their car, when members of the artiste’s entourage started an argument with them.
According to the complainant, stones and a machete were used in the attack against him and his son.
Mavado maintained his innocence throughout.
