The entertainment fraternity is this morning still reeling in shock over Monday evening’s arrest of top flight dancehall artist, Busy Signal, who was taken into custody on a extradition warrant as he disembarked a flight from the United Kingdom.
It was well known in entertainment circles that Busy Signal had a shady past, which resulted in him not being able to travel to the United States of America, the place where dancehall artistes get most of their shows. When Busy did the song Nah Go A Jail Again, it was seen as his way of explaining the reason for his lock-out from Uncle Sam’s country. Many stories floated around as to the reason why Busy had spent time in jail in the US and was now singing that he would never “go a jail again”.
No one — or perhaps very few persons — knew that he was a fugitive who had been under house arrest and dug off his tracking brace, fled to Jamaica and assumed a new identity.
So when the drama of Busy’s arrest unfolded at the Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston on Monday, May 21, 2012, it left fans, friends and baby mother in total shock.
First to offer his support on Twitter was Alliance ‘brother’ Wayne Marshall, who asked for prayers for the artiste and reiterated that Busy was a “good yute”.
“My prayers go out to him. Hope he gets over this and gets back to his music as soon as possible. Busy was caught up in friend and company as a teen in the US many years ago. Now it’s come back to haunt him. He is a great yute, not a dealer in the crime underworld,
Busy’s good friend in the business, Bling Dog, has reportedly been “very distraught” by the incident, which has been the only talk at the studios in Kingston, Jamaica since Monday evening.
One fan told chatychaty.com that she could not function at work after hearing the news yesterday. “Mi shock so till. Busy?! How Busy get inna this. Mi love Busy bad you know. A wonder how Tunya tek it, cause she big big pregnant…soon have baby. Busy! Lawd my God, help him. Dancehall mash up fi real now.”
A close associate of Busy’s, who says she has known him “since he was sleeping on Supa Hype’s floor”, says although she knew he was a fugitive, she was still shocked by the events. “I hope they are lenient with him, because he has changed his life and has done a lot of good,” she told chatychaty.com.
