The Health Ministry is reporting that steps are being taken to ensure that the cholera outbreak in neighbouring Cuba and Haiti does not spread to Jamaica.
Haiti’s outbreak started late last year.

Some 53 persons have reportedly been infected in south east Cuba.
Health Minister Dr Fenton Ferguson says based on the proximity of Cuba and Haiti to Jamaica, surveillance and prevention are priorities.
The Ministry’s technical teams are already meeting on the issue
