With over two decades of experience under his belt, music producer Phillip Thompson, made the decision to elevate his musical career to yet another level by sitting at the helm of his own company, DPhil Productions.
Therefore, in 2011, Phillip relinquished his seat behind the mixing boards and took the executive seat in the boardroom as the CEO of DPhil Productions, Inc. However, with his passion for music, in particular the creative side of the business, Phillip — or Fatter One as he is known to those in the business – still has a very hands-on approach to all projects stamped with the DPhil Productions signature.
A producer and recording engineer who has worked with some of the greatest producers in the industry, including Computer Paul, Noel Alphonso, Philip Smart and Don One, Phillip has now assembled an all-star team of veteran artists including Sluggy Ranks, George Nooks and Luciano, as well as a roster of talented new artists. Additionally, DPhil Productions is working with a talented team of musicians and is ready to unleash a slew of singles, including never-before-heard recordings from late singers Dennis Brown and Sugar Minott.
It was while working at studios such as Don One, King Bravel, FX studio, Studio 2000 and Mixing Lab that artists and producers from all around the world started to recognize and appreciate Philip’s ability to adapt his production style to any musical situation. Moreover, his extensive knowledge of the talent pool of musicians, studios, and engineers enables him to instinctively make the right decisions and assemble the perfect team to make each project a success.
Dennis Brown, Sammy Dread, Jr. Tiger, and Simpleton are just a few of the world-renowned musicians and artists who Phillip Thompson has helped to make platinum records and timeless music.
Phillip attributes his musical talent and ability to transform a song into a masterpiece to his Jamaican heritage and early addiction to music. He recalls that he started studying drums and keyboard seriously at the age of 14 after dabbling with other instrument and developing an obsession with reggae and hip-hop music. He recorded his first track at King Bravel Studio and before he left high school he was out doing gigs and playing on sound systems like Love Bunch, Libra love and King Bravel.
Phillip Thompson, aka Bigger One, is a musical giant in size and stature as well as experience and talent; and, under his direction, DPhil Productions is ready to make an indelible impression on the music industry globally.
