AMY Winehouse’s ex-husband, Blake Fielder-Civil, is on life support after collapsing from a suspected overdose.
The Sun reports that Fielder-Civil was taken to hospital with multiple organ failure just days after the first anniversary of Winehouse’s death from alcohol poisoning.
The mother of Fielder-Civil’s young son said she found him choking on his own vomit in his bed and has been told by doctors he may suffer permanent brain damage.
Sarah Aspin told the UK tabloid: “I saw Blake lying (in his bed) completely grey. His eyes were rolled back and his mouth was locked together.
“The doctors say they don’t know the prognosis. They said they put him in a coma to help him and due to infection. I’m having to prepare myself that he may never wake up.”
The Sun reported that Fielder-Civil had been out drinking with a friend the day before his collapse and had come home “slurring his words”.
He had been released from jail two weeks ago after serving a year for handling stolen goods.
A source told the paper that he had taken heroin and morphine.
Aspin, who met Fielder-Civil in rehab, said “We’d been so happy last Thursday morning and talked about getting married.
“Blake had a 1pm appointment with the probation service and said he might be late as he was meeting a friend. He’s never really been a drinker, but when he got home with this friend, he was slurring his words and staggering — I thought he was on something. I was very angry because he’d been doing so well.”
Fielder-Civil was married to Winehouse for two years and was blamed by the singer’s father, Mitch, for her destructive behaviour.
During an interview with the News of the World in 2008, he admitted he introduced Winehouse to crack cocaine and heroin.
After Winehouse’s death in July last year, he said: “We loved each other intensely and probably in a really unhealthy co-dependent way and we probably called it all sorts of things, passionate, fiery and whatever but sexually it was spot-on, I guess.
“You can’t have a relationship and be a heroin addict, you can’t. If you don’t have access to money you’re going out thieving and you’re going to be in jail half the time, it’s not a way to live.
