The Ministry of Education will next week Thursday hold a press conference to outline the way forward following a reported dismal performance of students in regional Mathematics exams and concerns about the teaching of the subject.
Education Minister, Reverend Ronald Thwaites yesterday said changes would have to be made with how the core subject is taught.
Reverend Thwaites disclosed that only 16 percent of persons teaching Math in both primary and secondary schools are qualified to do so.
The Education Minister revealed more on the matter to RJR News.
He says the figures show that 45 percent of Math teachers in the school system never passed the subject themselves and that 27 percent in the secondary school system are only qualified to teach up to the Grade 9 level.
It is with this alarming data in hand that Reverend Thwaites says the ministry will be taking action.
Reverend Thwaites says the ministry will also be looking at revising the National Math Policy
