Over fifty persons were left homeless this afternoon, after a squatter settlement they inhabited at 118 Duke Street, was demolished.
The residents were reportedly given notice to vacate the property over six month ago, however most of them remained in the wooden dwellings and was subsequently removed.
When the RJR News team visited the area Friday afternoon, several persons were observed securing their property.
A resident who reportedly occupied the property for over thirty five years, says that despite the peaceful approach taken to remove the residents, they contend that they do not have an alternative
Meanwhile Bailiff of the Corporate area Residents Magistrates court, Oswald Sherriah who carried out the demolition exercise, says that his office has made several attempts to seek
assistance on behalf of the residents, however he wasn’t successful.
